SCHEDULE NOTES
1 Fall 2024 classes begin on Monday, August 12, and end on Tuesday, November 12.
2 The reading period, scheduled for November 13-19, is subject to change if inclement weather or other extraordinary conditions occur during the semester and requires adding make-up days at the end of the semester. Classes will be scheduled on days designated for a reading period if needed. Students and faculty should reserve these days for potential classes at the end of the semester and not make travel plans during the days designated for the reading period.
3 Second-year students in the full-time program must take Constitutional Law II and Evidence.
4 Introduction to Analytical Skills I will meet for 10 weeks during the semester, from the week of August 12 through the week of October 14.
5 Appellate Advocacy is a required course for students who enter the College of Law in Fall 2021 and later. Prerequisites: Legal Research and Writing I and Legal Research and Writing II.
6 Prerequisite: Evidence is the prerequisite for Trial Practice.
7 Prerequisite: Trial Practice is the prerequisite for Advanced Trial Practice.
8 Education Law Seminar is offered for 3-credits in Fall 2024.
9 Law Clinic – Application and permission required. Once a student accepts an offer for a clinic position, the Registrar will provide registration permission for course registration. Students are not permitted to drop the clinic without approval of the Clinic Office. Students may not withdraw from clinics after the end of the Add/Drop period. Questions? 11 Law Clinic Meeting Time and Mandatory Orientation – The meeting time for Law Clinics will be determined in coordination with students enrolled. Students enrolling in a clinic must attend a mandatory orientation. The clinic faculty will set the date and time of the orientation.
12 Students enrolling in the Guardian Ad Litem Clinic must be available on Wednesday mornings or afternoons to attend dependency court hearings.
13 Field Placement - Application and permission are required. Students who are approved to enroll will be notified. The Registrar will provide registration permission for course registration. Questions? Contact Professor Mark Dorosin.
14 The classroom portion of Field Placement will meet on four Fridays during the semester from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in Room 376. The dates of those classes are August__, September__, October___, and November___. CLASS ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED.
15 Experiential Learning Requirement – This is a simulation course that counts toward satisfaction of the Experiential Learning Requirement. Contact the professor for more information regarding the specific requirements of this course and consult the Student Handbook for details regarding the Experiential Learning Requirement.
16 Independent Research – Permission required. Students must (1) submit an approved outline and application signed by the full-time faculty member who will supervise and evaluate the research paper and (2) submit the signed application to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for final approval. Email the completed application to juliana.martinez@famu.edu no later than noon on Friday, August 16. Forms and information are available on the College of Law Registrar's page on the website.
