SCHEDULE NOTES
1 The reading period is subject to change in the event inclement weather or other extraordinary conditions occur during the semester and necessitate additional class make-up days at the end of the semester. Students and faculty should not make travel plans during the scheduled reading period.
2 First-year part-time students MUST enroll in LAW 5750 Professional Responsibility in the Summer 2024 term.
3 Criminal Procedure Survey -- Students who have taken LAW 6117 Criminal Procedure Arrest and Investigation may not enroll in LAW 6112 Criminal Procedure Survey.
4 Prerequisite: Evidence is the prerequisite for Trial Practice.
5 Experiential Learning Requirement – This is a simulation course that counts toward satisfaction of the Experiential Learning Requirement. Contact the professor for more information regarding the specific requirements of this course and consult the Student Handbook for information regarding the Experiential Learning Requirement.
6 Summer 2024 Pretrial Practice Workshop will focus on pretrial skills in criminal cases.
7 Appellate Advocacy is a required course. This course does not satisfy the Upper-Level Writing Requirement or the Experiential Learning Requirement.
8 Law Clinic – Application and permission required. Applications are due March 8. Students who are approved to enroll will be notified. The Registrar will provide a registration permission number for course registration. Questions? Contact Professor Mark Dorosin.
9 Law Clinic – Once a student accepts an offer for a clinic position, the Registrar will provide registration permission for course registration. Students are not permitted to drop the clinic without approval of the Clinic Office. Students may not withdraw from clinics after the end of the Add/Drop period. Questions? 10 Law Clinic prerequisite: Professional Responsibility is the prerequisite for Law Clinics.
11 Law Clinic Meeting Time and Mandatory Orientation – The meeting time for Law Clinics will be determined in coordination with students enrolled. Students enrolling in a clinic must attend a mandatory orientation. The clinic faculty will set the date and time of the orientation.
12 Students enrolling in the Guardian Ad Litem Clinic must be available Wednesday mornings or afternoons to attend dependency court hearings.
13 Field Placement - Application and permission required. Applications are available by emailing COL-Fieldplacement@famu.edu. Applications are due March 8. Students who are approved to enroll will be notified. The Registrar will provide a registration permission number for course registration. Questions? Contact Professor Mark Dorosin.
14 Prerequisite -- Professional Responsibility is the prerequisite for Field Placement.
15 The classroom portion of Field Placement will meet on four Fridays during the summer term from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in Room 370. The dates of those classes are May 17, June 7, June 28, and July 12. CLASS ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED.
16 Independent Research – Permission required. Students must (1) submit an approved outline and application signed by the full-time faculty member who will supervise and evaluate the research paper and (2) submit the signed application to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for final approval. Email the completed application to juliana.martinez@famu.edu no later than noon on Friday, May 17. Forms and information are available on the College of Law Registrar's page on the website.
